An abstract silver grey glass art ornament handcrafted in the Lake District.
The small wave (s-curved panel) was handmade from transparent silver grey and crushed crystal clear artisan glass.
It is approximately 14 cm (L) x 6 cm (H) x 2.5 cm (D).
The textured nature of the clear glass adds additional visual and tactile interest.
It is a stand-alone piece of glass art suitable for display on any flat surface.
If placed in front of a window or other direct light source, the translucent nature of the wave allows light to shine through and reflect a subtle silver grey colour onto the surrounding surfaces.
Alternatively, it could be used in the evening as a table or shelf decoration with a tealight or small votive candle placed behind it.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the wave, I first cut silver grey artisan sheet glass by hand into the desired shape. I then placed the coloured glass on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, it was placed in the kiln and subjected to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. Next, the fused panel was cold-worked before being fired once more. It was then placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired a final time to shape the piece into a s-curve.
PACKAGING: All items will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap and posted in a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
