A popular turquoise and aqua glass art wave from my Keswick collection; inspired by the natural landscape surrounding Derwentwater.
The freestanding 'wave' (s-curved panel) was handcrafted from transparent turquoise, aqua and crystal clear artisan glass. It is intended to be an allusion to Keswick's fells (hills) and lake. However, the abstract nature of the design allows for individual interpretation.
It is approximately 23 cm (L) x 6 cm (H) x 3 cm (D).
The textured nature of the clear glass adds additional visual and tactile interest.
It is a stand-alone piece of glass art suitable for display on any flat surface, such as a mantlepiece, coffee table, bathroom shelf or windowsill.
The ornament looks particularly stunning placed in front of a window or other direct light source, as the translucent nature of the glass allows light to shine through and reflect colour onto the surrounding surfaces.
It could also be used in the evening as a table or shelf decoration with a series of tea-lights or a small candle placed behind it.
A little more about THE HANDCRAFTED PROCESS: In order to create the wave, I first cut transparent turquoise artisan sheet glass by hand into the desired shape. (*As I do not use a template, each piece cut has a variation in shape, making it unique). I then cut strips of transparent aqua glass. I arranged the cut pieces on a clear glass base and added crystal clear glass frit (crushed glass). After assembling the piece, I placed it in the kiln and subjected it to a contour fuse. This allowed the individual pieces to fuse together but still retain some of their original shape and texture. The fused panel was then cold-worked and fired in the kiln once more before being placed in another kiln on top of a ceramic mould and fired one last time to shape the piece into a wave.
PACKAGING: The panel will be securely wrapped in bubble wrap, placed within a well padded box. Although not always feasible, whenever possible, I attempt to reuse packaging in order to reduce the environmental impact.
